## What the Bank Verification Penny Drop API does

Penny drop is the most reliable way to prove a bank account exists and can receive money. The API credits a token amount, usually one rupee, to the account number and IFSC you supply. The receiving bank returns the registered account holder name along with the transaction result.

Because the check involves a real transfer, it proves far more than a format validation ever could: the account is open, it is not frozen, and it accepts credits. That makes it the standard pre-payout check for lenders, insurers and marketplaces settling money to customers.

## Where teams use the Bank Verification Penny Drop API

1. Verifying a borrower's account before loan disbursal

2. Onboarding sellers who will receive marketplace settlements

3. Validating refund and insurance claim accounts

4. Meeting internal controls that require proof an account accepts credits

## Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Who pays the one rupee?

The transfer originates from FastKYC's pooled account, not yours. You are billed per verification, not per rupee transferred.

What happens if the account is closed or frozen?

The credit fails and the API returns the failure reason from the bank, which is itself a useful signal: the account is not fit to receive a payout.

How is this different from penny-less verification?

Penny drop moves money and so proves the account can actually receive funds. Penny-less confirms the account exists using network data without a transfer, which is faster and cheaper but slightly narrower in coverage.
