What the OCR Aadhaar API does
OCR Aadhaar reads an uploaded Aadhaar image and returns its fields as structured data: Aadhaar number, name, date of birth, gender and full address.
Typing those details by hand is where onboarding slows down and errors creep in, particularly with addresses. Reading them from the card and asking the customer to confirm is faster and produces cleaner data for the verification steps that follow.

Does this verify the Aadhaar is genuine?
No. OCR reads what is printed on the card. Use Aadhaar Validation to check the number against records, and Aadhaar XML Verification for a cryptographically signed proof.
Should I store the Aadhaar number I extract?
Only if you have a lawful basis. Where you do not, use Aadhaar Masking so only the last four digits remain.
What image quality is needed?
A well-lit, in-focus photo where the whole card is visible. Glare across the number and heavy skew are the usual causes of a poor read.
