What is an employment verification API?
An API that confirms a person's employment from EPFO provident fund records rather than from a reference call: current employer, employment history with joining and exit dates, and the UAN the records are held under. FastKYC exposes each as a separate endpoint so you call only what you need.
What is UAN verification?
The UAN is the Universal Account Number EPFO assigns to an employee; it follows them across employers. Verifying it confirms the number belongs to the candidate and unlocks their provident fund service record, which is where employer names and dates come from.
How does OTP-based employment history verification work?
EPFO Generate OTP sends a code to the employee's EPFO-registered mobile number. EPFO Submit OTP validates it and completes authentication. The Employment History API then returns every employer, joining date and exit date on their provident fund record.
Can I verify employment without the candidate's UAN?
Yes. Mobile to UAN finds the UANs linked to a mobile number, EPFO Name Search checks whether a named person is employed at a specific company without a UAN, and Current Employment Details confirms where someone works right now.
Does it detect dual employment?
The Employment History API returns the employment history across employers from provident fund records, with joining and exit dates for each. Whether two periods overlap, and what that means for your policy, is a judgement your team makes from those dates.
What about employees who are not on EPF?
EPFO records only cover establishments that contribute to provident fund, so freelancers, contractors and staff of employers outside EPF will not appear. For those candidates pair the check with PAN, bank account and document verification.
Is the employee's consent required?
Yes. Collect consent before any check, and use the OTP flow where you want that consent on record: the code goes to the employee's own EPFO-registered mobile, so nothing is returned without them.
