What the GST OCR API does
GST OCR reads a GST registration certificate and returns the GSTIN, the legal and trade names, the principal place of business and the registration details printed on it.
In merchant onboarding this is the fastest way to capture a GSTIN accurately. The fifteen-character identifier is easy to mistype, and reading it from the certificate feeds a clean value into GST verification.

Does it verify the GSTIN is active?
No. Use GST Verification or GST Advanced to confirm the number and its current filing status.
Does it read the trade name as well as the legal name?
Yes, where both are printed. They often differ, and knowing which is which matters when matching against other records.
What about the certificate annexures?
Extraction targets the main certificate. Additional places of business listed in annexures may not be captured in full.
